Design Application

A manufacturer of disposable products came to Alexander & Associates to develop a prototype piece of equipment to mass produce a new and fairly complex product. The client was hand making the product and needed to mechanize the process for larger test market requirements.

There were several goals on this project. Alexander & Associates had to develop the process that would allow this product to be manufactured on a machine reliably and at high speeds. Initial costs had to be kept to a minimum while the feasibility phase was being completed. In addition, the project had to be completed quickly so that another group could take the results of the prototype machine and proceed with the design for the production version machinery.

Once the prototype equipment was designed, built and functioning to the customer's satisfaction, the production version machine design could proceed swiftly and Alexander & Associates was also asked to develop equipment that would package the new product. In the end, Alexander & Associates met all goals and aided the customer in the development of their production equipment which resulted in timely entry of the client's new product to the marketplace.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Bonded new materials
  • Formed and attached a particular feature to the product
  • Applied a liquid coating
  • Handled and folded the product after it was cut
  • Utilized surplus equipment including existing frame and drive
